Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This regulation cleans up the statute book by removing outdated technical rules for digital television.

What it does:

Repeals (cancels) the Broadcasting Services (Digital Television Format Standards) Regulations 2000
Those old rules specified technical formats for digital TV broadcasting (essentially, the "settings" for how signals should be sent and received)

Why it matters:

The 2000 regulations became redundant when new laws (Schedule 2A of the Broadcasting Legislation Amendment (Digital Television) Act 2006) took effect
This prevents broadcasters and equipment makers from facing conflicting or duplicate technical standards
It's purely housekeeping—no new rules are imposed, old ones are simply deleted

Who is affected:

Commercial and national TV broadcasters
Digital TV equipment manufacturers and retailers
Regulators who no longer need to enforce the old standards
