Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This instrument cancels (revokes) an old set of rules for commercial radio stations.

Specifically, it scraps:

The Broadcasting Services (Commercial Radio Compliance Program) Standard 2000 — which required commercial radio broadcasters to have formal compliance programs (administrative systems to ensure they followed broadcasting rules); and
A 2005 variation to that standard.

Who did this: The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) — the national regulator for broadcasting.

What this means: From 1 May 2012, commercial radio stations no longer had to comply with the specific compliance program requirements laid down in the 2000 Standard. They still had to obey all other broadcasting laws and applicable standards, but the particular administrative burden of this revoked standard was removed.
