Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a formal commencement proclamation—an official notice that switches on part of a law on a specific date.

What it does

Sets 4 April 2007 as the day when Schedule 2 of the Broadcasting Services Amendment (Media Ownership) Act 2006 starts operating.
Signed by the Governor-General on 29 March 2007, giving six days' notice before the rules take effect.

Why it matters Australian laws often pass Parliament but lie dormant until the Government formally "proclaims" them. This proclamation tells media companies exactly when the new ownership rules in Schedule 2 become legally binding, ensuring everyone knows the deadline for compliance.
