Commonwealth legislation
This Act has been repealed and is no longer in force. It is retained for historical reference.
This determination sets catch limits (quotas) for scallop fishing in Bass Strait for the 2018 season.
The catch caps are:
Who it affects: Commercial fishers operating in the Bass Strait Central Zone. Once the combined catch of all fishers hits these limits, the fishery closes for that species.
Why it matters: These limits prevent overfishing and ensure scallop populations remain sustainable. They were made under the Fisheries Management Act 1991 and the Bass Strait Central Zone Scallop Fishery Management Plan 2002.
Duration: This was a temporary instrument that automatically expired on 1 January 2019—it only applied to the 2018 fishing year.
