Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Direction imposes a temporary ban on commercial scallop fishing in the Bass Strait Central Zone, replacing an earlier 2013 closure and automatically expiring on 31 December 2014 unless cancelled sooner. It mainly affects fishers holding federal scallop concessions and their crews, while exempting scientific, state/territory, or other permitted fishing activities. The pause is intended to protect scallop stocks and allow recovery.
