legislative instrument

Plain English Summary

5/10 complexity

This instrument prohibits airlines and freight operators from bringing into Australia cargo that originated in or transited through Bangladesh unless it was examined in Bangladesh or at the last international port under European Commission–validated air cargo facility security controls. Exemptions include letter products, very small items, live animals, human remains, biological tissue, certain permitted dangerous goods, government articles and diplomatic bags. It matters because compliance requires specified inspections and continuous chain-of-custody from examination to loading, shifting inspection and logistical costs and responsibility onto industry.
