Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a formal commencement proclamation made by the Governor-General. It simply sets 4 December 2006 as the date when specific amendments to Australia's aviation security laws come into force (become legally active).

Specifically, it activates:

Items 1 to 19 of Schedule 1 to the Aviation Transport Security Amendment Act 2006
Items 21 to 35 of that same Schedule

(Notably, Item 20 is excluded from this particular proclamation.)

Why this matters: Until this document was signed, those specific changes to airport security rules, screening requirements, or enforcement powers existed on paper but had no legal effect. This proclamation flips the switch, meaning the amended laws apply from 4 December 2006 onwards.
