Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a formal proclamation by the Governor-General that activates part of an existing law. Specifically, it sets 1 July 2006 as the official start date for Part 1 of Schedule 1 of the Australian Trade Commission Legislation Amendment Act 2006.

In practical terms, this document "switches on" those specific provisions so they become legally enforceable from that date. Even though Parliament had already passed the Act, many laws don't take effect until the Governor-General issues a proclamation like this one. This is a routine procedural step to bring legislation into force.
