Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a formal legal announcement (a proclamation) by the Governor-General that acts as an "on switch" for part of a law.

What it does

Sets 30 July 2004 as the date when Schedule 1 of the Australian Sports Drug Agency Amendment Act 2004 commences (comes into legal effect).

Why this matters

Laws passed by Parliament often don't start immediately. This document officially activates the amendments in Schedule 1, allowing the changes to sports anti-doping rules to take effect.
Without this proclamation, those amendments would remain inactive despite having been passed by Parliament.

Legal basis

The Governor-General made this proclamation using the power granted by the Amendment Act itself (subsection 2(1), item 2), which allowed the Executive to choose the specific commencement date.
