Plain English Summary

What this does

This short 1956 regulation abolishes two overlapping sets of old rules about military canteens (the retail stores and food outlets serving Defence personnel).

The details

It cancels the Australian Military (Canteens Service) Regulations — a rulebook created in 1942 and amended several times through 1951.
It also cancels the Military (Canteens Service) Regulations — a separate rulebook created in 1951 and amended in 1953.

Why this matters

The government used this instrument to clean up the statute books by removing outdated administrative rules. For soldiers and canteen staff, this meant the old operating manuals no longer had legal force — presumably replaced by a single, clearer set of rules governing how canteens operate.
