54Acting Chief Executive Officer

## 54 Acting Chief Executive Officer (1) The Minister may, after receiving a recommendation from the Authority, appoint a person to act as Chief Executive Officer: (a) during a vacancy in the office of Chief Executive Officer, whether or not an appointment has previously been made to the office; or (b) during any period, or during all periods, when the Chief Executive Officer is absent from duty or from Australia or is, for any other reason, unable to perform the duties of the office. (2) A person, other than a member of the staff, who is acting as Chief Executive Officer is to be paid the same remuneration and allowances as are payable to the Chief Executive Officer. (3) A member of the staff who is acting as Chief Executive Officer is to continue to be paid the remuneration and allowances payable to the person as such a member but is also to be paid: (b) so much of any allowance payable to the Chief Executive Officer as exceeds the corresponding allowance payable to the person; and
