Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a formal proclamation—an official legal instrument signed by the Governor-General—that sets the start date for Schedule 1 of the Australian Energy Market Amendment (Gas Legislation) Act 2007.

Instead of naming a specific calendar date (like "1 July 2008"), the proclamation uses a legal mechanism called "trigger commencement". This means Schedule 1 will automatically begin on the exact same day that South Australia's National Gas (South Australia) Act 2008 comes into force.

Why this matters: This ensures that Commonwealth gas market laws and South Australian gas laws start simultaneously, preventing regulatory gaps and keeping the national energy market synchronized across state and federal jurisdictions.
