Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a commencement proclamation—a formal government notice that switches on specific sections of the Australian Energy Market Amendment (AEMO and Other Measures) Act 2009.

What it does:

It activates items 7 to 11 and item 13 of Schedule 1 of the Act
These provisions begin on the same day that South Australia's matching legislation (the National Electricity (South Australia) (National Electricity Law — Australian Energy Market Operator) Amendment Act 2009) comes into force

Why this matters: This ensures that Commonwealth laws about the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO—the body managing Australia's electricity grid) start at exactly the same time as South Australia's complementary laws. This synchronization prevents regulatory gaps or conflicts between federal and state energy rules.
