48Surrender of certificates

#### 48 Surrender of certificates (1) Where an order is made under this Act depriving a person of Australian citizenship: (a) if that person is an Australian citizen by virtue of a certificate of Australian citizenship granted to that person—that person shall, upon demand in writing by the Minister, surrender that certificate to the Minister for cancellation; and (b) if that person is an Australian citizen by reason of the inclusion of his or her name in a certificate of Australian citizenship granted to another person—that other person shall, upon demand in writing by the Minister, surrender that certificate to the Minister to enable the Minister to amend that certificate under section 47. (2) Where an order is made under subsection 44A(4) revoking an evidentiary certificate issued to a person under section 44A, the person shall, upon demand in writing by the Secretary, surrender the certificate to the Secretary for cancellation. (3) A person who, without reasonable excuse, contravenes subsection (1) or (2) is guilty of an offence punishable on conviction by a fine not exceeding $1,000.
