Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document formally approves the management plan for Christmas Island National Park for the decade 2014–2024.

Under Australia's national environment law (the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999), every Commonwealth national park must operate under an approved management plan. This short instrument—signed by the Parliamentary Secretary—gives legal force to the plan, which governs how the park is run, including rules for conservation, tourism, infrastructure, and access.

Who it affects:

Visitors to Christmas Island National Park
Parks Australia (the managers)
Tourism operators and contractors working in the park
Traditional owners and the local Christmas Island community

Why it matters: Without this approval, the management plan would lack legal authority. This document activates the plan's provisions, allowing park managers to enforce zones, activity restrictions, and environmental protections.
