Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This law allows the Australian Government to spend $66.11 million from the national treasury (called the Consolidated Revenue Fund) on urban public transport projects.

The money is specifically earmarked for an agreement between the federal government and the states about improving city buses, trains, and trams. This amount is additional funding on top of what was already set aside in a related law passed the same year (States Grants (Urban Public Transport) Act 1974).

In simple terms: Parliament is opening the chequebook to help pay for better public transport in Australian cities, adding extra cash to an existing funding deal with the states.
