What this Act does

Authorises the Treasurer to withdraw $5,740,982,000 from the consolidated fund and allocate it to government departments listed in Schedule 1 for the 2024–2025 financial year (the year starting 1 July 2024). (See sec.2.)

Who pays, who decides, and what changes

Who pays: the consolidated fund (the government’s central bank account made up of revenues and receipts). (sec.2)
Who decides: Parliament, by passing this Act, authorises the Treasurer to make the payments; the Treasurer then executes the payments in accordance with Schedule 1 and the categories stated. (sec.2)
What changes: departments listed in Schedule 1 receive additional legal authority to spend the amounts allocated against departmental services, equity adjustments and administered items for the 2024–25 year.

Why this matters (official purpose and practical effect)

Short title

sec.1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Appropriation (Supplementary 2024–2025) Act 2026 . Under the Financial Accountability Act 2009 , section 5 , words used in this Act that are defined under the Financial Accountability Act 2009 have the same meaning the words have in that Act, subject to a contrary intention in this Act.

The Treasurer is authorised to pay $5,740,982,000 from the consolidated fund for departments as stated in schedule 1 for the financial year starting 1 July 2024. For each department, the total amount mentioned for the department in schedule 1 is appropriated for the financial year for the department for application to its departmental services, equity adjustment and administered items as stated in schedule 1 . (sec.2-ssec.1) The Treasurer is authorised to pay $5,740,982,000 from the consolidated fund for departments as stated in schedule 1 for the financial year starting 1 July 2024. (sec.2-ssec.2) For each department, the total amount mentioned for the department in schedule 1 is appropriated for the financial year for the department for application to its departmental services, equity adjustment and administered items as stated in schedule 1 .
