Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorises the Australian Government to withdraw £20 million from the national treasury (the Consolidated Revenue Fund) to pay for World War II defence and war services.

Key points:

What it does: Allows the Treasurer to release £20 million to cover military expenses for the financial year ending 30 June 1945.
What it's for: Specifically funds "Defence and War (1939-44) Services" — essentially paying for Australia's involvement in WWII.
Timing: Although the Act became law on 27 June 1945, the money is treated as having been available from 1 July 1944 (the start of that financial year). This is common for budget legislation that passes after the financial year has already begun.

In simple terms, this is a budget bill — it gives the government legal permission to spend a specific amount of money on the war effort.
