Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorises the Australian Government to pay £750,000 from the Consolidated Revenue Fund (the government's main bank account) to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

The payment settles a debt: during World War II, the Bank had lent the government money to buy apples and pears under wartime emergency regulations (National Security (Apple and Pear Acquisition) Regulations 1939). These regulations allowed the Commonwealth to acquire fruit to secure food supplies and stabilise agricultural markets during the war.

Key takeaway: This is a simple budget measure where Parliament approves using public money to repay a specific loan taken out for wartime fruit purchases.
