Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does These regulations repeal (cancel) the Antarctic Seals Conservation Regulations 1986.

Why it matters This is a housekeeping measure that removes outdated rules. The repeal takes effect when Schedule 1 of the Environment and Heritage Legislation Amendment (Antarctic Seals and Other Measures) Act 2006 commences (begins operation). This suggests the old 1986 rules were replaced or modernized by that 2006 Act.

Who it affects Primarily affects government agencies and any organizations or researchers working in Antarctica who were subject to the 1986 regulations. For most people, this simply removes old red tape without creating new obligations.
