40 Requirement for registration (1) Only the following persons may use, or allow an animal to be used, for scientific purposes: (a) a registered person; (b) an individual engaged by a registered person and acting in the course of that engagement; (c) a student studying at an educational institution that is a registered person and acting in the course of the student's studies at the institution. (a) the person intentionally: (b) the person is not: (i) a registered person; or (ii) an individual engaged by a registered person and acting in the course of that engagement; or (iii) a student studying at an educational institution that is a registered person and acting in the course of the student's studies at the institution.

Animal Protection Act 2018 30 (3) Strict liability applies to subsection (1)(b).
