Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This instrument updates the export rules for fish caught in the Queensland Stout Whiting trawl fishery.

Under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, exporting native Australian wildlife normally requires a permit. However, specimens on the List of Exempt Native Specimens can be exported without individual permits if they meet specific conditions.

This decision:

Revokes the previous conditions that applied to this fishery since 2011
Imposes two new conditions requiring that:
- The fish (or any products derived from them) were caught lawfully under relevant fishing regulations, and
- The exemption automatically expires on 14 August 2015

Who this affects: Commercial fishers and seafood exporters dealing in Stout Whiting (a type of fin fish) from this specific Queensland fishery. After the expiry date, exporters would need to apply for individual export permits unless the exemption is renewed or replaced.
