legislative instrument

Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

The instrument removes the special exemption that let ornamental fish and invertebrates from the Northern Territory Aquarium Fishery be exported without permits. Those exports will now require the same EPBC Act permits and environmental assessments as other native wildlife.

This affects commercial NT aquarium fishers, exporters and supply‑chain businesses by bringing the fishery into standard national controls to ensure sustainability and compliance with international trade obligations.
