Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This instrument updates a temporary exemption letting Australian commercial fishers take certain marine life on the high seas without individual EPBC Act permits. It replaces the 2010 conditions with two new ones: the catch must be lawful under relevant laws, and the exemption lapses on 24 August 2012.

It affects commercial vessels operating beyond all 200‑nm zones, covering fish and invertebrates (e.g., squid, crabs, shellfish) but excluding species listed as threatened or endangered under Part 13 of the EPBC Act.
