Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a formal proclamation—essentially a legal switch that turns on specific parts of an existing law. It was signed by the Governor-General on 21 April 2011 and activates Schedule 2 of the AIDC Sale Act 1997 on 22 April 2011.

What it does

The AIDC Sale Act 1997 allowed the Commonwealth to sell the Australian Industry Development Corporation (AIDC), a government-owned financial institution.
Parliaments often pass laws in stages. This proclamation officially starts the parts of the Act contained in Schedule 2, allowing the sale process (or specific steps of it) to proceed legally.

Why it matters Without this proclamation, Schedule 2 would remain dormant. By fixing the date, the Government ensures the legal machinery for the privatisation (or a specific phase of it) kicks in on 22 April 2011.
