58 Definitions—pt 5
In this part:
adoptive relative means a person who is a relative within the meaning
of this Act as a consequence of an adoption.
associated person, in relation to an adoption, means—
(a) the adopted person; or
(b) an adoptive parent; or
(c) a birth parent or relative of the adopted person; or
(d) a child or other descendant of the adopted person.
birth parent, of an adopted person, includes anyone who was a
guardian of the person before the person was adopted.
birth relative, of an adopted person, means a person who—
(a) was a relative of the person before the person was adopted; or
(b) would have been a relative of the person if the adoption had not
taken place.
identifying information, in relation to an adoption, means—
(a) a copy of, or an extract from, an entry in a register of births
relating to the adopted person; or
(b) information from which a birth parent, a birth relative or the
adopted person may be identified (other than information that
consists of the address of a place of residence).
General Division 5.1
information means identifying information or non-identifying
information (not being personal, sexual or medical information of a
prescribed kind).
relevant authority, in relation to information, means—
(a) the director-general; or
(b) if the information is contained in records in the possession or
under the control of a private adoption agency—that agency; or
(c) if the director-general has declared in writing that a private
adoption agency is for the time being the relevant authority for
this part in relation to that kind of information—that agency.
