Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

CASA requires owners and operators of Weatherly 620 aeroplanes fitted with wing hinge pins P/N 40852-001 to inspect all four main-spar hinge pins using Weatherly Service Note No.15, checking thread depth, length and position. Defective or misaligned pins must be repaired or replaced per the Service Note and maintenance manual before the aircraft next flies (effective 2 Aug 1996).

The measure targets pins that may be too short or off‑centre, which could weaken the wing joint; compliance costs and parts sourcing fall to operators and their maintenance providers.

Replace defective pins and re-position mis-aligned pins in accordance with Service Note No. 15 and the aircraft maintenance manual.

Note: FAA AD 96-16-06, issued by Priority Letter on 26 July 1996, refers.

Compliance: Before further flight after the effective date of this directive, which is 2 August 1996.

Background: The wing hinge pins connect the wings to the fuselage. Some pins may have been made too short; others may have been installed off centre. Either defect could dangerously weaken the wing joint.
