Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: An aviation safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) that mandates urgent maintenance on specific jet engines to prevent parts falling off during flight.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of aircraft fitted with Rolls Royce Viper Mk 520, 521, or 522 turbine engines.

What it requires: You must inspect and repair the exhaust cone assembly (the metal cone at the back of the engine that directs hot exhaust gases) according to the technical instructions in Rolls Royce Service Bulletin No. 72-A338. Alternatively, you can comply with an earlier safety rule referenced as CAO 106 AD/RRT-V/16.

Why it matters: An exhaust cone detached from an engine in flight because a cap nut and stay pin worked loose. This creates a serious risk of engine damage or debris striking the aircraft.
