Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) for owners of specific Piper/Ted Smith Aerostar aircraft.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Model 600, 601, and 601P aeroplanes with specific serial numbers (listed in the document). If your plane's serial number isn't on this list, this doesn't apply to you.

What you must do: Replace the gaskets on the centre fuel tank fuel probes. These gaskets prevent fuel leaks, which could cause fires or engine failure.

How to do it: Follow the manufacturer's instructions in Ted Smith Corporation Service Bulletin SB600-53.

When to do it: Within 100 hours of flight time after 29 October 1976.

Why it matters: Worn or faulty gaskets can allow fuel to leak from the centre tank, creating serious fire and explosion risks.
