Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this means: This is a mandatory safety order for owners of Piper and Ted Smith Aerostar aircraft (models 600 and 700 series).

What you must do: Check and replace the fuel and oil pressure hoses located in the engine nacelles (the covering around the engines) according to the manufacturer's Service Bulletin No. 600-124. This must be done to prevent dangerous fuel leaks that could cause fires.

Why it exists: An aircraft operator found a fuel hose that was severely kinked and nearly cracked all the way through during routine maintenance. This created a serious fire risk.

When you must comply: Complete the work within 100 hours of flying time, or at the next annual inspection—whichever comes first after 31 December 1993.

Who it affects: All owners and operators of Piper and Ted Smith Aerostar series aircraft, unless they have already completed this specific work.
