AD/TPE 331/27 - FCU Drive Check - CANCELLED

This document cancels a previous aircraft safety rule.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has ended a requirement (Airworthiness Directive AD/TPE 331/27) that previously forced owners of certain aircraft engines to perform regular inspections.

Who it affects:

• Owners and operators of aircraft with AlliedSignal (Garrett/AiResearch) TPE 331 series turbine engines

What it does:

• Cancels the requirement to periodically inspect the Fuel Control Unit (FCU) Drive according to manufacturer Service Bulletin No. 72-0095
• The cancellation took effect on 24 September 2009

Why it matters: The original rule was only temporary—it applied only until a specific replacement part (torquemeter body part number 3101726-2) was installed on the engine. The Authority cancelled the rule because it was no longer needed, presumably because the fleet had been modified or the safety risk had been resolved.
