Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it does: This Airworthiness Directive requires owners and operators of specific AlliedSignal (Garrett/AiResearch) TPE 331 turbine engines to perform maintenance on the fuel control bracket. Specifically, they must add shims (thin pieces of material to fill gaps) and apply increased torque (tightening force) to the bracket assembly.

Who it affects: Anyone operating aircraft with these specific engine models: TPE-331-1-100B, -E, -F, -J, -L, -Z; TPE-331-1-151A, -G, -K; TPE-331-2-201A; TPE-331-5-252M; TPE-331-6-252M; TPE-331-2UA-203D; TPE-331-3U-303G; TPE-331-2UW-303G; and TSE-331-3U-303N.

Why it matters: The directive addresses a safety defect in the fuel control bracket mounting. Without this fix, the bracket could fail, potentially causing fuel leaks, engine failure, or fire. Compliance is mandatory within 100 hours of engine operation after the specified date.
