Plain English Summary

What this does

This document officially cancels an older safety rule (Airworthiness Directive AD/SWSA226/85 Amendment 1) that placed restrictions on how certain Fairchild Swearingen aircraft could fly—specifically limiting their flight envelope (the speed and altitude range where the plane is allowed to operate).

Who it affects

Owners and operators of Fairchild (Swearingen) SA226 and SA227 series aeroplanes—including Metro and Merlin aircraft models.

Why it matters

The flight restrictions in the 1985 directive are no longer necessary because they were replaced by a newer, updated safety rule issued in 1995 (AD/SWSA 226/95). This cancellation removes the outdated requirement to avoid confusion and ensure operators follow the current standard.
