This airworthiness directive becomes effective on 1 January 1998.

Background The elevator control rod end bearing retainers have been found deformed or creased on a number of aircraft. The creasing is caused by improper installation and may allow the bearing to come apart, disconnecting the joint and causing loss of pitch control.
