Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This is a mandatory safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for specific Fairchild Swearingen aircraft.

What it requires: Owners must install support clamps to hold fuel vent lines and electrical wires apart in the wing flap area. This stops the wires and fuel lines from rubbing together (chafing), which could damage wiring or cause fuel leaks and potential fires.

Who it affects: Owners of specific Fairchild SA226 and SA227 series aircraft with the serial numbers listed (covering models SA226-T, SA226-T(B), SA226-AT, SA226-TC, SA227-TT, SA227-AT, and SA227-AC built between specific production runs).

When to comply: Within 30 hours of flight time after 31 January 1985.

Why it matters: This update expands the original safety order to include additional SA226 series aircraft that were found to have the same design flaw, ensuring more planes are protected from this fire risk.
