This rule requires owners of specific Fairchild Swearingen aircraft (Model 226T) to install a warning label on the main dashboard near the fuel gauge.

The label warns pilots about engine windmilling—when an engine spins without producing power (like a propeller turning in the wind while the engine is shut down). Staying in certain rotation speeds for too long can damage the engine.

The label must display these time limits:

28% to 100% RPM: Maximum 1 minute
18% to 28%: Never operate in this range (danger zone)
10% to 18%: Maximum 5 minutes
5% to 10%: Maximum 30 minutes
0% to 5%: No time limit

Operators must install this within 10 flight hours after 5 July 1973.

Applicability: Model 226T.

Requirement: Install the following placard on the main instrument panel adjacent to the Fuel Consumption Totalizer.

WINDMILLING RPM OPERATING LIMITS

28% to 100% One minute maximum.

18% to 28% Do not allow engine to wind-mill in this RPM range. WINDMILLING RPM OPERATING LIMITS

10% to 18% 5 minute maximum.

5% to 10% 30 minute maximum.

0% to 5% No limit.

Compliance: Within 10 hours time in service after 5 July 1973.
