Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires owners/operators of SIAI‑Marchetti F260, F260B and F260C aeroplanes fitted with specified Hartzell‑equivalent propeller governors to inspect the governor relief‑valve spring by 31 July 1983 and thereafter at each maintenance release or every 500 flight hours depending on the valve port shape (Applicability; Compliance). It responds to reported breakage of spring P/No. A3107 that can lower governor oil pressure and risk propeller overspeed (Background 1). Operators fund inspections/repairs and must follow SIAI Service Bulletin 260 B35 (Document).

Document: SIAI Marchetti Service Bulletin 260 B35.

Note: FAA AD 83-06-10 refers.

Compliance: For those governors with a relief valve body which has a rectangular port, by 31 July 1983 and every maintenance release inspection thereafter. For those governors with a relief valve body which has a round port, by 31st July 1983 and every 500 hours time in service thereafter.

Background: 1. The manufacturer advises instances of spring P/No. A3107 breakage. Breakage of this spring can cause lowering of governor oil pressure and a harmful “overspeed” of the propeller.
