Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires operators of Boeing 747, 777 and McDonnell Douglas DC‑10 aircraft fitted with Britax Rumbold first‑class seats to inspect the seats' motor‑system cable per Britax Rumbold Service Bulletin SBM13000‑25‑929, initially by 9 January 1998 and then at intervals not exceeding six months until a specified modification is installed. It is aimed at preventing cable damage from seat‑trolley movement; operators and maintenance organisations must schedule recurring inspections and later implement the modification, bearing the associated time and cost.

AD/SEATS/11 First Class Seats Motor System Cable 11/97

Applicability: Britax Rumbold first class seats fitted on Boeing 747, Boeing 777, and McDonnell Douglas DC-10 aircraft.

Requirement: Inspect in accordance with Britax Rumbold Service Bulletin SBM13000-25-929.

Note: UK CAA AD 003-05-97 refers.

Compliance: Before 9 January 1998 for the initial inspection, and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 6 months; until Britax Rumbold Service bulletin SBM13000-25-911 (Modification CRR SE012) is incorporated.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 9 October 1997.

Background: The CAA requires certain actions because damage and wear to the cable could be caused by movement of the seat sliding trolley.
