Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This directive requires owners and operators of Short SC7 Skyvan aircraft to upgrade the front pilot seats by installing safety harnesses (shoulder restraints, not just lap belts).

Who it affects: Anyone operating Short SC7 (Skyvan) series aeroplanes — a type of twin-turboprop utility aircraft.

What must be done: Each front seat restraint system must be modified to include a safety harness fitted according to a scheme approved by the Secretary (the relevant government authority).

Why it matters: This safety upgrade prevents pilots from being thrown forward or striking the instrument panel during turbulence, hard landings, or accidents, reducing the risk of injury and loss of aircraft control.

Compliance note: Operators had to complete this modification before 1 January 1974.
