Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This directive mandates owners/operators of certain SAAB Safir 91 variants to carry out the SAAB service-bulletin inspection and any corrective work to detect and address corrosion in the fuselage main-spar U‑profile. Issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, it requires a one-time deadline then recurring (annual) checks; costs fall to owners/operators and contracted maintenance providers. It matters because corrosion could weaken a primary structural member and reduce airworthiness.

Applicability: Safir models 91A, 91B, 91B2, 91C and 91D.

Requirement: Action in accordance with SAAB 91 Safir SB 91.1.006 Rev1.

This amendment is effective from 7 November 1996.

Background: Corrosion damage has been reported in the lower U-profile of the fuselage main spar.

The U-profile is a highly loaded member and corrosion damage will degrade the structural capability.
