What it does
This instrument is an airworthiness directive amendment (AD/S-PUMA/54 Amdt 2) directed at Eurocopter AS 332 (Super Puma) series helicopters fitted with plug doors. Mechanically, it does three things that are explicit in the text.
First, it imposes an obligation to "Action in accordance with the technical requirements of EASA AD 2008-0005" (Requirement). The directive also expressly references EUROCOPTER AS 332 Alert Service Bulletin No. 52.00.33 R2, or a later EASA approved revision, as the service-information document to be used. The compliance line reads "As specified in the Requirement document."
Second, it sets its applicability narrowly and inclusively at the same time. Applicability is stated as "Model AS 332 helicopters versions C, C1, L, and L1, all serial numbers, equipped with one or two plug doors and which have not been modified in accordance with MOD 0726395" (Applicability). That means all serial numbers of those four model variants are within scope, but aircraft already modified by MOD 0726395 are excluded from the mandatory inspection/modification regime the AD imposes.
Third, the amendment carries forward and refines repetitive inspection obligations until a specific modification is incorporated. The Background explains that Amendment 2 "retains the repetitive check requirements of DGAC AD F-2004-142 R1 (AD/S-PUMA/54 Amdt 1), which is superseded, amends the applicability section to clarify that as well as applying to an aircraft fitted with both LH and RH plug doors, it also applies to aircraft fitted with one plug door. More detailed check instructions are included, to be accomplished until incorporation of MOD 0726395. This modification will cancel the periodic inspection requirement and the prohibition of plug door operation in flight." The AD therefore replaces Amendment 1, continues repetitive checks, clarifies applicability to single-door installations, and ties the end point of the recurring regime to incorporation of MOD 0726395.
