Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: An Airworthiness Directive (mandatory safety order) requiring helicopter operators to fix a door hardware defect on specific Sikorsky models.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Sikorsky S-76A and S-76B helicopters.

What it requires: Operators must carry out specific repairs or inspections in accordance with Sikorsky Alert Service Bulletin 76-52-12. This involves addressing screws and/or rivets that secure the window trim mounts, which were found to be scoring (scratching/damaging) the upper door lock control rod.

Why it matters: Damage to the door lock control rod could prevent the door from locking or sealing properly. In flight, this creates serious safety risks including potential door failure, cabin pressurization issues, or injury to occupants.

Compliance timing: The work must be completed before the aircraft can receive its next Maintenance Release (the certificate stating the aircraft is airworthy) after 3 November 1988.
