Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a mandatory safety order for owners and operators of Sikorsky S-76A and S-76B helicopters. It requires them to inspect and fix electrical grounding connections that could fail and cause a total loss of electrical power.

Who it affects: Anyone operating these specific helicopter models in Australia.

What must be done: Operators must follow the instructions in Sikorsky Alert Service Bulletin No. 76-24-8.

When it must be done:

If you fly using Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) (flying by instruments in clouds or low visibility): You must fix this before your next IFR flight.
If you fly using Visual Flight Rules (VFR) (flying by visual reference to the ground): You must fix this by your next regular 25-hour maintenance inspection or sooner.

Why it matters: Faulty ground path connections could knock out all electrical power, which is critical for instruments, communications, and flight controls.
