Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does This Airworthiness Directive mandates a safety fix for specific Sikorsky S-76A helicopters to prevent dangerous structural cracks in the fuselage.

Who is affected Owners and operators of Sikorsky S-76A helicopters with serial numbers 76003 to 76007, and 760001 to 760338.

What must be done You must inspect and reinforce the upper fuselage at "Station 300" (a specific structural frame location) following the manufacturer's instructions in Sikorsky Alert Service Bulletin No. 76-53-27. This involves installing a stainless steel strap to strengthen the structure against fatigue.

Why this matters Without this reinforcement, the helicopter's fuselage could develop fatigue cracks—tiny fractures caused by repeated flight stress—that could compromise the aircraft's structural integrity and safety.

When you must comply The work must be completed within 500 hours of flight time ("time in service") after 31 August 1986.
