What this does

This document officially cancels a previous aviation safety rule (called an Airworthiness Directive) that applied to Sikorsky S-62 helicopters.

What was the old rule?

The previous directive required helicopter operators to:

Inspect the tail rotor blades for defects
Repaint the black portion of the blades white (for better visibility)

These requirements were originally based on a manufacturer service bulletin from 1969 (updated in 1984).

What happens now?

As of 14 April 2005, owners and operators of these helicopters no longer need to follow the inspection and painting requirements. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has decided the rule is no longer necessary—likely because the safety issue is now addressed differently or the specific risk no longer applies.

Anyone who owns or operates Sikorsky S-62 series helicopters.
