Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This airworthiness directive is a safety order for all Ryan ST Series aircraft. It requires owners and operators to replace the lower flying wire attachment lugs (part number 5-123-15) located at fuselage bulkhead No. 2 with stronger, reinforced versions. The replacement lugs must also be braced against drag loads in a way approved by the Secretary (the aviation safety regulator).

Who it affects: Anyone who owns or operates a Ryan ST Series aeroplane.

What must be done:

Remove the existing lower flying wire lugs at the specified location
Install reinforced lugs in their place
Ensure the lugs are braced against drag loads to regulatory standards

Deadline: The work must be completed within 100 hours of flight time after 29 November 1974, unless already done.

Why it matters: This prevents the flying wire attachments from failing, which could cause loss of aircraft control.
