Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This is an Airworthiness Directive (a mandatory safety order issued by the aviation regulator) requiring inspection of crankshafts in specific vintage aircraft engines.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of aircraft powered by Cirrus Minor II engines (written as "11" in the original document) with serial numbers 4769 and below.

What it requires: Before installing one of these engines into an aircraft following its next major service (overhaul), you must inspect the crankshaft. This only applies if the overhaul is completed after 1 July 1962.

How to comply: The inspection must follow one of three technical manuals:

Cirrus Service Instruction J14, or
ANO 106.1.4.1.6.1, or
Airworthiness Directive AD/BNC/3.

This ensures potentially faulty crankshafts in older engines are identified before the engine returns to service.
