Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a mandatory safety directive for aircraft mechanics and operators. It requires a specific mechanical modification to the connecting rods (the parts that connect pistons to the crankshaft) in certain Rolls Royce (Blackburn) Cirrus engines (specifically the Major I, II, and IIA models).

Who it affects:

Aircraft maintenance engineers and mechanics who work on these specific engine models
Aircraft owners/operators with planes using Cirrus Major engines
Aviation safety inspectors

What you must do: Before installing one of these engines into any aircraft, you must complete the modification described in one of these three technical documents:

Cirrus Modification 2083, OR
Air Navigation Order 106.1.4.1.5.4, OR
Airworthiness Directive AD/BNC/2

Why it matters: This prevents potential engine failure caused by faulty connecting rods. The directive ensures that only modified, safer components are used in flight.
