What it requires: You must inspect and possibly replace the elevator and rudder hinge fittings (the metal parts that connect the movable tail surfaces to the aircraft body). If you haven't already done this work, you must complete it within 100 hours of flight time after 31 March 1980.

Why it matters: There was a risk that the holes in these hinge fittings could stretch out of shape (elongate) and the rudder spar could crack during normal use. Either defect could lead to loss of control of the aircraft during flight.

Applicability: All model 114 with S/Nos. 14000 to 14499. Document: Rockwell International SL No. SL-114-17.

Background: There is a possibility of elongation of holes in the hinge fittings and cracks in the rudder spar developing in service.
