Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive grounds specific aircraft seatbelts because they could trap occupants during an emergency evacuation.

What it does: Orders aircraft operators to immediately stop using certain Davis safety belts (specific part numbers are listed in the manufacturer's Service Bulletin No. 1). Reports indicate cracks in the buckle cover latch that could cause the release mechanism to jam, potentially trapping passengers and crew in their seats during an emergency.

Who must act: Anyone operating aircraft equipped with these specific Davis FDC series safety belts.

What you must do: Remove the faulty belts from service and replace them with approved alternatives. Alternatively, you may modify the removed belts by replacing the adapter component according to the manufacturer's Service Bulletin instructions.

Deadline: Complete the replacement or modification within 100 hours of flight time after 10 August 1989, or at the next scheduled maintenance inspection—whichever occurs later.
